I got one bit of advice for u, get rid of both especially the norton, but u can only remove it completely with a complete drive format, the use these 4 programs and u shouldn't have any problems if u keep em up 2 date :- PcCillin (latest version preferable), Ad-Aware, Spy-bot, and AVG Antispyware(origanally Ewido)
Pardon me for saying this but Norton is the biggest piece of S**T on the planet, only picks up a third (if lucky) of wot PcCillin does, slows your system down by about 20% and is impossible 2 remove without a complete format of the drive it is on

It might be happening due to Norton, because it puts a lot of pressure on your memory. Here are some tips and must-use free security software that you may need. But uninstall every security software that you have got before getting them.
1.Never use more than one anti-virus or firewall. There is a good possibility that they will fight each other. However, you can use as many anti-spywares as you wish.
2.Always keep the real time scanning/resident shield of your anti-virus and any one of your anti-spyware active, especially while downloading something from file sharing networks.
3.Keep all your security software updated, and scan your computer for spyware every 1 week and for viruses every 2 weeks
ANTIVIRUSà
1.AVG: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10596553.html?tag=lst-0-1
ANTISPYWARE / ANTIMALWAREà
1.AdAware SE: http://www.download.com/ad-aware-se-pers...
2.SpyBot Search and Destroy: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/spy...
3.Spyware Terminator: http://www.spywareterminator.com/
FIREWALLà
Comodo Personal Firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download/CPF_Setup_2.0.0.1.exe
You may not necessarily have all the three anti-spyware. If you download Spyware Terminator, don't activate its embedded anti-virus(I have already answered the "Why?" that may arise in your mind). Ewido is also very good, you can keep that.
I also suspect that you are not cleaning up your temporary files and registry issues. For that, download this tiny software and explore its many features:

Just make sure that you also have Ad-ware Protection
I had to reboot my Computer completely due to an Ad ware base Virus which Norton did not detect.
Ask your friendly computer shop or friend fr advice. Ad ware viruses come from the free download site you visit & normally just monitoir where you visit and what you do with your computer but some will keep records of your purchaes and pass them on to a third party without you being aware in my case I picked up one that disabled my computer.. Hope this helps.

I have the same BT Broadband. Norton Antivirus that you have is against viruses only.
First, You MUST run Norton update to get the latest updates (or use the automatic update) and then run a full system scan, at least once a week.
Secondly, download and install these 2 programs (from www.download.com): (a) Spybot-Search & Destroy, (b) Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE. Remember as well to update and scan these programs at least once a week.

- First, download and run Ccleaner. Use the Issues tool, then the cleaner tool.
- Then defragment your hard drive from Start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter. Leave the pc while it runs.
- Then tackle the spyware. It will take a while to scan so just be patient.
You may need to switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.
All the following programs are free for personal use;
You need to install one firewall.

Norton is rubbish as is McAfee. Try Zone Alarm made by Zone Labs - they have a great firewall and virsus/spyware package. I have never had any probs with the product and its really easy to manage.

If you have any other security service at this time, you must uninstall it before you can install another service. Well good luck with it. I've been trying to uninstall McAfee for month now & they refuse to get out of my computer, like an annoying pop-up they are in my face every time I turn onmy computer.Hope its not McAfee that you are dealing with they are like a parasites which refuses to budge. Norton is very a very good security to have.

No. I have exactly the same set-up and my computer works fine. You might want to consider the Windows Defender software which also checks for harmful or unnecessary software on your PC. I have this installed and it runs with no problems and no conflicts with other programmes. As for McAfee, I'm with Jewel on this one. It's a nightmare to un-install and they even charge (or they did when I was with them) £1 per minute to contact them. Dick Turpin was hanged for less !!!

The norton package should protect from most threats, ensure the firewall is turned on and the virus definitions are up to date. It is also worth checking any executable files you download before running them.
Some other free things to use would be
spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org
adaware http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html.
