free online scan i use everyday on customer's computers. reboot your computer in safe mode with networking then run the scan. some viruses are active on start-up and won't let an anti-virus program access them. safe mode starts your machine with minimal drivers and programs running so getting rid of problems is a lot easier.

Since you say that you can't download anything, I suggest you do a System Restore. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. From there, change your computer setting to some earlier configuration (like 5 days or 20 days, etc.), when the virus was not there. Restart your computer. Then download AVG from the following link, update it and run a full system scan:

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

Go to the source I quote and download AVG free edition. I did this last week and when it ran a full scan on my machine it found over 500 nasties which it has dealt with - these had not been picked up on the paid for anti virus program that I previoulsy used.
