yes, I'm afraid they very much do care about ethnicity. this is because audiences care about ethnicity. here's a silly example: would you be happy watching a movie where a white guy played Mandela, or a black guy played Ghandi? Certainly MOST of the audience would find it odd and unconvicing if it didn't look right. So, I'm afraid as an actor you will need to play the parts that you look right for. I've done a LITTLE acting myself (TV commercials etc). I look very scandinavian and am always type-cast as that. It happens to all of us.

Hey, there's an idea. Let's cast a movie about American Slaves starring Mexicans, Asians, and Whites... Plz don't try to shove your way into Hollywood via Affirmative Action. You'll ruin the industry.

BTW, I think I recall an Asian lady on ER. Not very attractive but it wasn't a kung fu role, and she fit the part well. And she played the part superbly.

They do care.

Because the fact is that certain ethnicities project a certain kind of image, and casting directors look for people who fit that kind of 'look'.

Asian girls usually are kungfu queens or this cheerleader sidekick or this super smarty-pants or the tiny hippie girlfriend of the weird guy. Something like that.

I'm Asian too. That's Hollywood for you.

i could propose "The Ruling classification" (1972?) with Peter O'Toole. It encompasses: psychological ailment, sexuality, classification privildedge, large places, etc. yet once you're an American, i do no longer understand in case you will understand what it incredibly is approximately. that's an exceedingly darkish farce approximately how the wealthy and titled in England can actually spoil out with homicide. examine it out however...
