Yep, dead easy, as previous, serious, answers have shown.
Get all of your documents together - check with them first by phone- then take yourself and the necessary fee down to the nearest consulate and get it.
It took me about 2-3 hours in London, so I expect that the same will apply in places such as Birmingham.
Basically you lodge your documents, then shove off for a couple of hours, then come back, get your cleared papers, then hang around to actually present them and get your visa.

depends were you live but when you go make sure its early as
the embassy's get crowded the usuall precidure is you put form and payment over in the morning and collect in the after-noon

go down to the nearest embassy - i know there is one in birmingham. it takes a few hours. easiest way is to go in morning and you will have your passport and visa back in the afternoon.
