Get lots of rest. The more sleep you get, the faster your body will be able to fight the cold.

Drink lots of fluids. Whether it's water, orange juice or some honey-lemon tea, your body needs all the nourishment it can get while you're sick.

Take a hot bath or shower - steam acts as a great decongestant if you're feeling really stuffy. For your bath, toss in some peppermint tea bags for an extra soothing experience.

Things like garlic, ginger, clear soups (chicken noodle, miso, etc.) and spicy foods can help you on your road to recovery.

Rub a little Vic's Vaporub on your back before heading to bed and you should breathe a little easier.

Take Zinc and take and Vitamin C (1000 mg) twice per day. There are some over the counter herbal cold remedies that contain both. Then drink Pau D'arco tea. It can be found at a health food store, it's great for upper respiratory virus'. Buy some eucalyptus essential oil and put a few drops in your bath tub. Fill the tub with hot water and let it steam up your bathroom. (Note the water will be too hot to take a bath) But sit in your bathroom breathing the steam for 15 minutes. This will keep your nasal passages open. I'm just like you, I won't take any medicine when I have a cold as I have really bad reactions to them. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

Good luck!

here's a home remedy.. from my great-great grama. have you've ever heard of a mustard plaster? well the indgredients are inexpensive. you will need 2 tblspoons of dry mustard, 2 tblspoons of baking soda, 1/2 cup of water. mix together then put it on a towel then put it on your chest or under neath ur ribs and one on your back then wrap a paper back around the top part of you and let sit for 30 minutes. it will loosen up all that stuff in your chest and the smell of the mustard will get rid of your stuffy nose. i know it kinda sounds gross but it really works. after words take a shower cuz otherwise you'll smell like mustard. try it!

Make a bowl of chili. That will clear your nose a bit. Then, boil some water on the stove and breath in the steam from the pot. This will also help clear your nose. Do this when you are stuffy, and before you know it your cold will be gone.

Make chicken noodle soup with chili powder, garlic, paprika, and Tabasco sauce. That will light a small fire. The chili powder and Tabasco sauce will clear up your sinuses; the paprika is an expectorant, and the garlic will improve your circulation. It may taste a bit funny at first, but give it about 20 minutes and it should help bust that cold.

Just drink lots and lots of water or fruit juices. Eat lots of fruits rich in vitamin C to boost your immune system and fight off the virus. Or you can take 1000mg of Vitamin C a day till you get well and rest.

Drink plenty of fluids, such as orange juice or hot tea. Try to keep from doing vigorous activies, and get plenty of rest. That's about the best treatment without using medications.

Rinsing/gargling with Listerine can help clear up the stuffy nose (and so can sucking on Altoids)
