Internet Protocol. A packet-based protocol for delivering data across networks

IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is basically the language computers use to communicate over the internet. My best guess as to what "IPs" means in your context is that it is short for "IP addresses".

On the internet, every computer has a number assigned to it, which is that computer's "address". These addresses are generally written as a series of four numbers separated by periods. For example, 209.73.187.220 is the IP address of a computer that handles Yahoo! Answers.

The abbreviation for Internet Protocol, IP refers to the set of communication standards that control communications activity on the Internet. An IP address is the number assigned to any Internet-connected computer.

An IP address (Internet Protocol Address) is a unique address that devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard (IP).

Adding to what already said, even IP indeed stands for communication standards, term “IP” is commonly used for short for “IP address”. “Assigning, sniffing, changing, discovering IP” etc – means really IP address not IP standards.
