What about lego? They can build it together and then play with the model. You can get very simple lego, with bigger blocks, so that small hands don't find it too fiddly. It keeps my young 'un happy for hours! Failing that, then buy in loads of colouring stuff and use an old roll of wallpaper for them to draw on. That should keep 'em quiet too!

Get them mint coin sets from their birth years. They won't care, except that they are shiny and pretty, but Mom and Dad will put them away and appreciate them. Since the kids will probably be overloaded with new toys anyway, they won't even notice that someone actually bought something practical. When they are grown up, they will appreciate how much the coins have increased in value.

Then you can also get them coin folders for the statehood quarters and teach them how to collect all of them. Don't expect these "collections" to increase in value much, because that is not their purpose. They were created to stimulate interest in coin collecting, one of the most profitable hobbies on earth.

Just be careful when they open the gift wrap on the proof sets that they do not open the holders and touch the coins. They are generally pretty well sealed, but you would do well to watch.

Kids like toys. Buy them toys. You don't want to be the relative that gives them UNDERWEAR for Christmas, do you?
Just go to Big Lots and buy them something for under $10 each! They'll love it now matter what!

Here's something I bought my brother's kids, 2 boys and a girl, a few years ago that they LOVED: Kites! Most folks don't think about these things at Christmas time, but we put the kites together flew them. The 5 year old girl and the 3 yer old boy had never flown a kite before, and they were so excited!

That would be my suggestion; buy them kites, and take the kids outside to fly them (weather permitting, of course)!

How about personalized books? Kids really love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles to choose from like Sesame Street, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Looney Tunes, Dinosaur Land, Scooby-Doo, Sports titles and so many more. They are very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful & unique gift. Check it out and good luck!

This is the most coolest and unusual gift I have seen. I actually bought all my neices and nephews a pair!!
Strapless sandals or TREDS as they are known. They are unreal and actually can be worn over and over!!
They are cheap, light ( cheap postage) and heaps of fun! Definitely will atttract attention too !!

Little scarfs with their initial sewed on. Boys love things about themselves. And well they should.

You can buy coloring book and plasticine. Also lego is nice but it's kind of dangerous because they can swallow it.
