I am not sure if there is a softwre for that, but the way i do it is to get the symbols from MS Word (Insert→symbol) and i select the mathematical symbol i wish to insert, like ( ∫ ∑ € ∞). I, then, copy and paste it on the Yahoo!answers webpage.

don't know keyboard shortcuts, but what I do is:

1 Go to Microsoft Word:
2 Set "Times New Roman"
3 Go to Insert Menu ---> Symbol
4 Select your symbol/character... (there are a lot of characters there)
5 Click insert. Your character will be on the Word page.
6 Copy the character to Yahoo! answers.

Some useful shortcuts:
alt+02234 = º
alt+02233 = ¹
alt+02226 = ²
alt+02227 = ³
alt+02225 = ±
alt+02231 = · (multiplication)
alt+227 = π
