That's an excellent question. I personally believe the people who complain constantly about the commercialism and greed would be miserable no matter what.If it wasn't the commercialism or greed, they would find something else to gripe about. If something bothers you that much, why waste all that energy complaining when you can do something to change it? Yet no one wants to put in an ounce of effort to make the holiday something that they enjoy rather than hate.
I know what it's like to be poor. The poverty excuse isn't even valid when it comes the commercialism argument. Unless you enjoy being poor, it's rather dumb to obsess over what other people are doing when you can be spending that time and energy productively trying to get yourself out of the hole you're in.

I do not think people that think like this are all bad. I don't like the commercialism or the greed, but I still love Christmas. It also makes me happy to see people smile at a gift I've given them. I try not to watch the commercials and I tune out the negative people. Christmas is a fun time,a lot of people have forgotten that. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

It is very hard when you have a large family. I am married plus my parents are divorced and re-married. I used to be an only child. Now along with in-laws I have 12 siblings and 6 nieces and nephews. That's before you've even got to parents, your own chidren or spouse. It is a pressure nowadays to buy something for everyone and to make it something nice. Then in return you get something that was 3 for 2 in M&S that isn't even your sort of thing.
I wish Christmas could go back to the days where kids were happy with a new doll and a home made pot of jam or basket of biscuits made people just as happy.

Some are plain miserable Scrooges, some may have little money, and some may be simply miserable!
I also love giving and getting. It is always a pain to stay within budget...I keep finding things to buy.

Maybe it's because they don't really have the money to spend or that Christmas these days teaches children to be greedy - demand to get what they want and and sulk if they can't - or both. And don't forget the people who actually have to WORK in shops, Christmas can be a very stressful time for them rushed off their feet constantly and don't get a break because the shop's too busy, and two adults fighting over the last toy on the shelf doesn't help. Christmas these days often brings out the worst in people, the very opposite of it's original intention, so people who complain about it are actually the opposite of Scrooge.

It really is two sides of the coin. One sees the negative side and one sees the positive. Its all about attitude.
Christmas is also a good time to have compassion, for those who have pain, anger or bitterness about this time of year. Much of it is because of past experiences that created these feelings. Their feelings are just as valid as those who find the holidays joyful and uplifting.
Try not to cast them aside and be resentful of their feelings.

There is too much commercialisation, too many tacky presents for people who don't really need them, just to keep big business in profit.
Christmas should be about giving love first, and presents for the kids too.

Im starting to think that christmas has lost its magic.theres far too much commercialism. Small children dont even believe in Santa now...well not many of them do. Its a tragedy. I am shocked that kids have a list of what they want totalling hundreds of pounds each ...

Not necersarily maybe they feel they are put under pressure to spend money they don't really have to make sure the kids have the latest fad. I am sure there are a lot of kids out there saying if they don't have the latest games console they will bbullied at school or something along those lines.
