Santa Claus is an American confection. He was originally an elf, so the midget bit is not far out. His origins are St Nicholas who was a mediaevil bishop (they tended to be white and male) and Old Father Christmas who was a hangover from pagan days (German folklore had strict demarcation. The sprites that minded the trees were female - hence the fairy. The old man in charge was male)
What does bother me is that Jesus is depicted as white (except in Ethiopia). A first century Palestinian Jew would have been rather swarthy. No wonder there was no room for them at the inn.

Well your Santa can be a midget female! But maybe the idea behind Santa is to teach our chidren that we live in a world where your imagination and beliefs are key to all the goodies that await us. 'Santa' is created by the dominant white culture hof the Western World hence why he is white. If you look at most eastern cultures, they don't really believe in Santa unless they are christians themselves or brought up in the West.
