Christmas should be about Christ yes because without him there wouldnt be a christmas. BUT whats the harm in it being about both?
Im a christian and myself and my family celebrate christmas because of its religious meaning but christmas is also about, love, family and just taking that one day out of the year to do nothing but be with the ones you love.
Giving pressies, although not the most important part of christmas, lets us show our appreciation to one another. Santa, for my family at least, is just an extra bit of fun for the day, and something to get the kids interested.
I grew up believing in santa and christ and still love christmas now..the way it should be i think. :D

Thats exactly what Christmas is about.
Everyone knows the reason we celebrate christmas. We all go to church at christmas to celebrate Christs birthday.

So what if its about Santa too, Santa has brought so much joy to people all over the World and he celebrates christmas just as we do.

The pagan festival that one of your responders refers to is The Christ Mass the Celebration of Light. In this light it is Christmas only in the Northern hemisphere . This celebration occurs at the Winter solstice the shortest day in the northern Hemisphere . From this day forth the days would start getting longer and gradually warmer the crops could be sown and the harvest done the descent of darkness upon their lands was over for another cycle. The Christian faith usurped this festival and supplanted their festival of the birth of Christ, not too far removed because each is a celebration of light ( Christ- Christos meaning Light)
Surely there's room for both where would we be without the innocence of childhood and the faith to believe in something magical. isn't it something like "unless ye are as a child ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven"

Christ's birth is all very well, but a bit dull. I mean I've heard the story hundreds of times and it wasn't that great the first time around. You wouldn't watch an average film over and over again, would you? The big jolly bloke on the sleigh is much more fun for kids. Getting presents is better than Hymns every time if you're a kid. Religious family or not. Christmas is for kids now, not freaks who believe in antiquated fairy stories.

It all depends. Personally I'm not religious so Christmas is about a guy on a sleigh for me.

The beginning of Christ is the most impressive element that ever befell to guy. even with the undeniable fact that if we base our faith on GOD'S note and in no way mans custom our Savior replaced into no longer born in Dec. Dec. 25 replaced into originaly the get at the same time of the beginning of the solar god and each and each and every of the trapings of Chtrist mass advanced from this celabration, the evergreen tree, missiltoe ,presents and so on that's yet another custom of guy. The church replaced into warned about the traditions of guy in Col 2:8 Jesus replaced into born months before Dec. If GOD had needed us to rejoice HIS SON'S day of beginning why did HE no longer make HIS day of beginning obtrusive? might want to our love for this get at the same time out way GOD'S reality? the in problem-free words area of this get at the same time that's in GOD'S note is tht Jesus replaced into born in a manger yet in problem-free words the shepards were presant. Yes, it should. While Santa & the presents are a fun thing, (for kids & parents) teaching about the original reason for Christmas should be part of the Holiday. Personally, I think Charlie Brown's Christmas says it perfectly!

I think it should be a mixture of both Santa Claus is just for the kids and they stop believing in him when they are about ten, when I was younger I was just as amazed at the nativity story as I was about Santa Claus. There is the Easter Bunny at Easter and no body seems to complain about that as it is obviously too just a myth and Easter is a religous time and kids getting easter eggs off the easter bunny does not seem to bother anyone, why should Santa claus!

Absolutely. Advent is a time to discover Christ’s light inside us. To discover his love for us, remembering all along that He, God, was for our sake became incarnate and was born in the most humble of places.

There is nothing wrong with having Santa as a Christmas figure and symbol, but it, along with all other symbols, should not be more important than the child Christ. Amen.
