Evil is live backwards. I would think evil prevails 50% of the time statisically.
because we all live.
It is the white and dark story I would prefer the dark force to prevail as it is more intelligent, more difficult to deal with for most readers.
I am reading a book called Rainbow 6, I know the forces of good are going to win so I put it down, I prefer an unexpected ending or one were you can not tell who prevails.

Yes, but the story would have to be good throughout. I wouldn't be interested ONLY because I knew evil would prevail.

Sure, it would be more complex, look at Blair Witch Project, the Ring, and The Grudge.
Best Horror movies and at the end of each evil and supernatural prevails. It leaves you wanting more, and thinking more, and fearing more.

in my opinion yes. Sometimes like when I'm watchin Superman or some other hero movie I go for the bad guy, just cuz I would like to see that happen. Think about how cool it would be if in Armageddon if the asteroid did hit the Earth and destroy it, or something along those lines. Not that I'm into evil or what have you, it'd just be nice to see a movie and not be able to predict how it will end.

the thought-with regard to the antagonists succeeding is super. whether this is in the epilogue then it appears like this is deus ex machina. Why learn the triumphing hero all the on an identical time as evil wins besides? meaning that the hero's gesture of greatness grow to be futile, and is a loss of skill. Narratives choose skill (meaning). one thank you to characteristic skill to the aim industry is to have 2 protagonists, one is the hero, the different is an agent of 'evil'. this form, the agent of evil may well be the character in the narration of the epilogue and there remains a feeling of skill.

too often in movies and stories we see good prevail, which doesent necisarilly happen in the "real" world.
it would be awesome to see a movie or story where "Evil" prevails!

Yes. I am so SICK of people saying good will allways prevale. Not true. Good isn't prevaling now. And evil is never vanquished. It is only banished to a nether region, where it reawakens after a few hundred years.

Blue Streak, Entrapment, Glorify theives and they get away.
Any Tails from the Crypt story.
Usual Suspects Bad guy gets away.
Same thing with Saw
The list goes on. People just don't think about it that detailed. bad guys do win and they do make money
