By rights they should do as you will be in the public eye and a reference helps them to determine as to whether you are the person they are looking for. Obviously they will need someone with a bright bubbly attitude when dealing with the public as customers are their business so of course you would need to encourage the customers with politeness and a smile making them feel that the service they are getting is just for them alone. Secondly, they will need to assess that you are hard working and would do any job you are asked without complaint and would give the job everythng you have got. If they dont ask for references, take some anyway as this should impress them that you are honest enough to show them what others think of you. References should be either from past employers teachers etc,not family and friends. Good luck

It really depends on how you represent yourself. I was hired as a PT shift manager not too long ago( I don't work there anymore) without even filling out an application. If you are a sure thing to them, they will give you the job on the spot without even filling out an application. Dress well and communicate well. Overall, be confident, but not cocky. Do not tell them you will be quitting within 2 months. But make sure you don't put some b.s. for your references.

no-there's such high turn over in those jobs that they don't waste their time. however you should place references on your app.
