Hedgehogs are into S&M, so it doesn't matter to them if they get hurt. In fact, it adds to the thrill.

Hedgehogs are very secretive creatures, and it is only recently that they have been filmed mating. It was deemed too controversial for TV, but I saw the director's cut and you can clearly see the hedgehogs whipping each other with twigs and stinging each other's sexual organs with nettle leaves. All quite fascinating.

"The hedgehog's dilemma is based upon the apparent danger of a male hedgehog being poked while mating with a female hedgehog. It states that the closer two people are to each other, the more they may hurt one another. However, this is not an issue for hedgehogs as the male's penis is very near the center of its abdomen (often mistaken for a belly button) and the female has the ability to curl her tail upward to the point that her cloaca protrudes behind the rest of her body. As such, the male doesn't have to get completely on top of the female when mating."

hedgehogs makes love very carefully! their body movements are very calculated, and slow in order to assure that it isnt causing any harm. The main event is the sexual intercourse which lasts for few seconds and thats about it. Thats the way it it makes love and rest of the time it doesnt have much of a body contact with its mate.

With great care.

Victorian naturalists contemplating the problem claimed without any justification or observation that hedgehogs made love face to face which of course they do not.
