When I was in my 20s I wanted to find my true love and get married, but I never knew WHY I wanted to get married. I just thought it was the answer to everlasting happiness. Now, I'm so happy to be single. I want to get married when it's the right person, right time (I'm at a good place w/ myself), and right reasons (love, companionship, sharing). I'd like that to happen after 40. Right now, it's ME time. That doesn't mean partying and carefree living. Just want to chill and understand myself more (my goals, intentions, etc.).

Marriage screws up a lot of things b/c people are screwed up when they enter a marriage purely out of emotions. Feelings come and go, marriage just isn't taken seriously anymore.

Why you would think that is because a lot of people have the wrong concept of marriage. You wouldn't understand marriage until you find that person that you want to spend the rest of your life with. Have you ever felt like you can't see your future without someone in your life? That even if you had to sacrifice your life to be with that person. And if you did sacrifice your life you would give it to just spend the rest of your life with that person even if it meant the rest of your life was only for thirty minutes? If you did then you won't be asking that question but I guaranty you that when this happens you would be hearing the wedding bells as well. Marriage has to do a lot with morals as well as religion that's why you always see marriages happening with the blessing of God. When God made Adam and he became lonely God then created Eve for him and married them then said "Go forth and multiply." So there you hve it marriage is a blessed thing and had been started in the bood of times. When you loe someone that much you would only then understand...

i think the idea of marriage is outdated...i think so many people these days do it for the status, the ring, the benefits (health insurance, lower rates on things), or to make people think that everything is legitimate when there is a child on the way or they are moving in together..personally i think its something sacred that should be shared by two "religious" people. most people these days aren't even religious at all..I partially blame the system for giving better benefits to married couples than singles living together with kids or without kids. .. i know people that have been together for more than 20 years without being married and have had no problems while others can't handle a marriage for a few months.

Well religion for one thing. Commitment another.

Most people marry out of tradition.Rather it be for religious reasons or not. Marriage is not easy for anyone and it is the ultimate test of faith perseverance and dedication. Yeah is can mess a lot of things up but it can also be a great things too.

It seems like the right thing to do at the time. Sometimes it is and sometimes you should run away and fast.

Some people think they HAVE to get married, because of some infantile doctrine!!!

Others are forced into it by cultural nonsense...

But some like to do it as a tradition... And think they need to to have kids...
