Frank McCourt... because he has a unique and appealing writing style, and his memoirs about his impoverished childhood and the hardship he went through in his life really relates to my own.

I think that it is extremely difficult to pin exactly one writer as my favorite, or anyones favorite, for that matter. It's like asking which cup you like to drink out of the most. 'I don't know! The yellow one?' I respect different authors in different genres for different reasons. I enjoy non-fiction authors who get me to question my views. I love fantasy, sci-fi, extreme fiction, ect. authors who can be writing about something so fictional and yet paint such a vivid picture that I feel as if I can simply reach out and touch it. And I absolutley adore authors who are willing to step out of the norm and write beautiful works of art that I know I wouldn't be able to conjure in a million years (if for some miracle I acually lived that long)

tough question there are so many great ones out there. I think my favorite contemporary author would have to be Janet Evanovich. She's smart and entertaining, and you don't have to get too deep or philosophical with her books. It's just for the sheer pleasure of reading. and it doesn't hurt that her characters are insanely funny.

Anne Rice. Her format and style is different from alot of other authors. She makes her fiction very believable and uses great detail.

That's really hard to pick only one... I'll have to say Neil Gaiman. He uses a wonderful mix of his own characters and mythological archetypes... and he has a spectacular imagination. He never fails to inspire me.
