You should take the tree down. The roots will keep "searching" until they find water. This includes going through the pipes in your home. Then you'll have a pricey foundation and/or plumbing bill.
You might be able to rent a ditch-witch type machine and install a plastic root barrier, but that tree will most likely continue to be a problem. Plus, willows are short-lived trees. Easier to cut it down while it's young (er).

There are several things you can try.
Digging around the roots and forcing them to reroute. Roots are seeking water and nutrients so give them a supply in the direction you want them to go.
You could cut and poison them out, which will hurt the tree. Or you could call around for an expert to advise you.

You cant. The willow tree is one of the most destructive trees you can get.

If its near the house then get rid of the tree. Those roots will go through just about anything.

Its a lovely tree but keep it from building.

Like I did: Follow the root to the edge and give it a couple of feet, dig down and cut the root and pull it out or, if you leave it it will send up shoots so, I would dig it up.

chop them back an put in a piece of plastic or metal to keep them from going back under the paved area. most roots grow a foot to two feet below ground so make shure your barrier is three feet deep up to one inch below ground an problem solved.

Remove the stump. cutting down the tree will not stop it from trying to grow.willows are like weeds. if you stick a fresh cut branch in the ground it will grow a tree. only by removing the stump will you be able to protect your property.
