sI like your question as well as you name!

I think of "free" as in a capitalism based society. "Free" to buy anything you want even if you can't afford it, "free" to go into debt, "free" to work yourself to death b/c you're living paycheck to paycheck since you have no savings, "free" to spiral out of control, "free" to abuse drugs and alcohol to escape stress, "free" to abuse the environment and leave a dead wasteland to your grandchildren, etc.

Nothing is free in a land not even willing to invest in the welfare of their citizens by providing universal health care...only one in all of the industrialized nations. We spend the most % of GNP on it w/ the least to show for it. Also, we rank 30-something in overall health care, behind the ones who have national health insurance. We are just "free" to do whatever we want, including running ourselves into the ground. Kind of like a teenager out of control. Where are the parents?

As far as freedom to ***** (aka, freedom of speech) it no longer is a guarantee, esp since Dubya's been in office. Also, say bye bye to privacy, religion and habeas corpus.

Cause they want people to think that their opinions matter when they really don't.
