American football is descended from english rugby why didn't they call it american rugby or something like that

Ha! American Rugby? That would force Americans to acknowledge that there are other worthwhile countries outside of America. That will never happen.

I think they want to compete with football name as you called soccer. I think FIFA should sue them like WWF sue the WWE as they use Football brand to make them the so called American Football more catchy.
