I would hate to turn up the volume while listening to it on my car cd player.

You need to modify the sound files prior to burning them.

Depending on the software you are using some have a feature called "normalize" for the volume. Of course, how much you can do varies depending on the quality of the file you are working with.

If you use Nero to burn your CDs, you can specify an option "Apply volume levelling to this CD" when adding your tracks. Then all your songs volumes are adjusted automatically.
