i'm trying to decide what career I want. and zoology is one of my choices. I LOVE animals. I want to work at San Diego Zoo or somewhere like it. I was just wondering if any one who is already in that career could let me know what type of schooling they needed for it.
Thanks everyone

Zoology is a very broad field, encompassing everything from entomology, wildlife conservation, animal physiology, ecology, behaviour and their biology etc., !!!! Which means it would be helpful if you did a little personal investigation to narrow what aspect of zoology you would most prefer to study as its quite difficult to branch into another specialisation later, for example, if you start off with a general interest and study of zoology which encompasses most of the above but realise that you needed a Ph.D in Taxonomy and Phylogenetics!?
If you would prefer to work in a zoo environment how about studying animal husbandry and or captive breeding?
Undergraduate coursework in zoology starts off with general cell biology, ecology and comparative anatomy of vertebrates and invertebrates, taxonomy, physiology and behaviour, so any previous studies in biology and other general sciences help set the scene. English and oral expression are also important.....being able to pass on what you have researched to your peers in a clear and concise manner.
Good-luck.

A large zoo will probably have at least one zoologist on its staff, but the majority of people who work there are not zoologists. For that type of work a degree in animal science would be preferable to a degree in zoology.
