Nothing is completely secure. It is very possible to fix a game if you know the right people, and drop a few bucks in the right pockets. I would like to think that many of the teams you are talking about are just dumb luck, but nothing is impossible. Sports has always been big business for many people, and the odds of getting an entire team to throw a game without anyone being the wiser is slim. My father always said: “A secret is no longer a secret when more then two people are in on it.”
All I’m saying is it isn’t impossible to rig a game, but the likelihood of entire teams taking a loss for a few extra bucks just doesn’t seem worthwhile. After all, athletes make millions a year….why would you want to throw that away? With our media, it doesn’t take long for a story to get out of hand, especially when it would get high interest and the subsequent high ratings.

Is it possible? Sure. The 1919 White Sox threw a World Series. Two members of baseball's Hall of Fame (Cobb, Speaker) were caught red handed betting on their own games and were only let off the hook when they threatened to reveal more names doing the same thing. There are people who STILL think the NBA lottery was rigged when the NY Knicks managed to get the first draft pick, which resulted in Patrcik Ewing.
But realistically? No. Because no one could keep a secret or conspiracy of that magnatude involving the number of people that would require without someone making some small mistake and having someone in the press find out about it. The Saints became a legit contender because Miami chose Daunte Culpepper instead of Drew Brees and Houston didn't think Reggie Bush was the Number #1 pick. Two teams didn't even think Jordan was worthy of being their number 1 pick out of college. The Yanks haven't won a World Series since 2000 - and as for the rejuvenation of baseball? I think that proves my point about the press when one sees just HOW those longballs may have been generated.

No, I think you're just reading into events that happened coincidentally. The Pats won their Super Bowl because Tom Brady was extremely good at Quarterback, not because every other team laid down. The Saints are good this year because they got a great Quarterback in Drew Brees, a great coach in Sean Payton, and a game changer in Reggie Bush, not because other teams are letting them win. Baseball isn't the same sport as before the strike, even with the home runs. Basketball has great players come around in cycles (Wilt Chamberlain, MJ, and now LeBron James and Kobe Bryant) and you can't really say that MJ was great when he returned. It brought back some ratings, but not because the games were rigged for him to win.
It may be possible for a player or a team to try to throw a game, but for an entire sport to be rigged would be nearly impossible. For every sport to be rigged at the same time, you would need a conspiracy of such vast proportions that you couldn't possibly keep it a secret.
Are you one of the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, too, or are you just paranoid about sports bookies or something?

not possible. first off the yankees did NOT win the series in 2001. and considering how much animosity they arouse, that would seem like a good way to piss of the rest of the coutnry besides nyc. you must not remember how much the rest of the country enjoyed game 7. the saints turned into a contender because they got a good qb and mcallister healthy and bush. baseball got full of steroids, that's why so many home runs, and it was years later anyways. who is doing all this "rigging" and why? jordan came back because he wanted to and he could. this is such a silly theory it's pretty sad

Is it possible, Yes. Is it probable, i doubt it. Any team can win any week and after something big happens those home teams are probably more motivated and harder working for a while. You cant compare anything to the yanks winning because they win a quarter of the series anyway.

Of course it is rigged. Anything with billions of $$$ involved has to be jacked.
However, that is individual games, not whole seasons.
Case in point? Detroit Lions.
I rest my case.
