There is really no question. The goldwing is the more reliable, smoother, powerful, better all-round bike. You can get it with all the bells and whistles from the factory, alot of HD you get the bike, then have to buy the extras.
The goldwing is the cadillac of bikes, the Electra glide is more like the Ford truck.

No other bike can compare to the latest Goldwing. It's in a class all on it's own with cutting edge technology. If you ride one you will forget about ALL the rest of them. They are totally unmatched. One thing that is a fact- the Electra Glide has a two cylinder engine and the Goldwing engine has six cylinders, that's like comparing a four cylinder car engine to one with 12 cylinders. I bet when this question is done taking answers the Goldwing will win by a landslide... If you want the best motorcycle get the Goldwing...If you want to be patriotic buy a flag...

Harley Electra Glide. Research on how long it would take a regular service for the dealership to do. Electra Glide.. same day w/o problems... and all the parts they need are always there. Goldwing.. few days w/o problems because they are limited on service techs and theres a chance they wont have all the parts at the dealership so it will take a few more days for that.

Servicing is not that expensive. Shop around. The lower prices are out there. I get my oil changes for 20 bucks. But you know, the Harleys are easy enough to do yourself, you just need the right oil wrench. I just dont like getting oil on my shiny bike. I am such a girl. Anyway, look at the gold wing and see how much you can do yourself... in case you need to. Harleys are easy.

Customizing the bike will be a lot easier for the goldwing because you will have limited options on what fits the bike and whats available. The Electra glide will be better because you can get the bike to look exactly what you want.

Riding comfort is about equal on that subject. It's all up to your tush on what you like. Oh yeah, the Harley does 'glide' down the road as if its on a cloud. The newer models don't have any vibration unless you go all out on the exhaust.

Everyone loves a Harley and you can get the sound that is distinct to H-D. When it comes to selling it, you will get top dollar, if not the same you put into it. And it sells quick, too.

How much are you going to ride it ? and how far? These bikes are made for the interstates. If you are going to hop the bars, this isnt exactly for it. The weight is easy but parking lots are a different challenge until you get used to it.

It's really what you like, not the public. I hoped I helped you out with you decision. I have buddies who have driven their Electra Glides to 200k within a few years.

Good luck.

First of all, do you want to ride it or wrench on it? If you want to ride it-get the Goldwing. I have found that the best use for a Harley is either a boat anchor or a yard ornament.

go for goldwing, used to have one, its a great bike for touring, bit too large for a single, (swapped mine for a yamaha fjr1300), but great for a couple, the goldwing community is great too, harley owners dont seem as friendly. if you want more info, contact colin appleyards in yorkshire, (01535 606311) ask for barry, he knows everything there is to know about wings.

Research reliability and maintenance costs, not just purchase price. Talk to a few different mechanics to see if you get any consistent answers.

Let's see, Harley or Honda?? Honda, every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Harley...expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, shaky, occasionally unreliable...oh, and did I mention expensive for what you get??

Honda..proven track record, reliable as hell, bulletproof, expensive but worth it....

How lucky are you to have such choices!!

I'd go Honda and never look back.
