i would like to know if froma mobile no can we indentify from which state that person is calling?

No you can't tell which state however yes you can tell the number belongs to by answering it and saving the number under that person's name then when they call again it will come up with thier name

You can know the name of Telecom Circle where this number belongs but you can't easily know the name of State bcoz there may be one state but two telecom circles like Chennai & Tamil Nadu ( 2 ctelecom Circles but one State) or two states but one telecom circle like Bihar & Jharkhand ( 2 States but 1 Telecom Circle ). Although any time you can know the name of State , District or Customer with the help of Administration. If you want to track the customer then plz take the help of Administration and they will request to the service provider to put this number on tracker and from there you can get the Information that now where this number is being used and even you can know the name of BTS ( tower ) under which this particular number is being located.

you can find out the area code from which the number is assigned, but that doesn't mean that's the state from which the call is bein made. Just type "XXX area code"(obviously XXX would be the area code in question) into a Yahoo or some other search engine and it'll tell you.

Well... you can find out what state the phone number was acquired for. That doesn't mean that's where the person is.
