Ophiuchus (IPA: /ˌəʊfiˈjuːkəs, ˌɒf-/), sometimes referred to as Serpentarius, is one of the 88 constellations, and was also one of the 48 listed by Ptolemy. It is a large constellation located in the southern hemisphere near the center of the Milky Way, between Scorpius to the west and Sagittarius to the east. Of the 13 zodiacal constellations (constellations that contain the Sun during the course of the year), Ophiuchus is the only one which is not counted as an astrological sign.
Ophiuchus is depicted as a man supporting a serpent; the interposition of his body divides the snake into two parts, Serpens Caput and Serpens Cauda, which are nonetheless counted as one constellation.
Ophiuchus, the sign of the Serpent Bearer, is the 10th sign of the Real Solar Zodiac.
However, although it lies on the Ecliptic it is not one of the signs of either the Tropical Zodiac of standard Western Astrology, or the Sidereal Zodiac of standard Vedic astrology.
This problem is one of the most contentious issues in modern astrology. I know the subject of Ophiuchus causes us lots of grief as astrologers. But it's up there in the heavens. It exists. We can't ignore it.
Ophiuchus is often mistakenly called the 'thirteenth sign of the zodiac' because the sign is thought of as an additional sign to the the twelve Tropical or Sidereal signs.
In fact, Ophiuchus is a Sun-sign in the Real Solar Zodiac, i.e. the Sun can be seen against the stars of Ophiuchus between 30th November and 17th December each year. [The dates of the cusps move a little from one year to the next, so sometimes they are quoted as 1st December to 18th December.] Aquarius, the Water Carrier, is the actual 13th, and last, sign of the Real Solar Zodiac
Ophiuchus is an Ancient Greek constellation. The Serpent Bearer is one of the original Ptolemy constellations, appearing in Al Magest Star Catalogue [c 130 - 170 AD]. He also appears on the Farnese Globe, a Roman copy of a circa 2nd century BC depiction of Atlas holding the Celestial Sphere above his head. So why isn't Ophiuchus a member of the standard astrological zodiac - the Tropical Zodiac?
There is some information available on the Internet about another '13th sign', Arachne, the Spider. This sign was first described in James Voghs' book Arachne Rising. However, the book was a hoax. Arachne Rising was science fiction. 'James Vogh' is a pseudonym of the science fiction author John Sladek, now deceased

The reason that Ophiuchus is not a part of the western astrological zodiac is because that zodiac is defined on the basis of the sun spending an equal amount of time in twelve astrological signs starting at the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere — this is called the tropical zodiac.

this complete thirteenth signal Ophiuchus employer is ridiculous. The signal has been round for a lengthy time period now even at the same time as the 12 Zodiac gadget replaced into made. i visit keep in concepts structure contained in the German Castles, they educate 12 indicators, no longer 13. Why in 2011 settle on to make a replace to a gadget human beings were occurring following for the longest time? I say it truly is purely to initiate extra drama and educate that human beings will believe something they listen on the information. My first question replaced into, why replaced into this decision procedure no longer even reported to the commonly used public? Who supplies those astrologers the authority to be making a range that is affecting a good type of persons? the reason there's a meant uproar is that a range that is affecting us by some ability or yet another, we were in no way advised about nor had a say contained in the alternative yet it replaced into made for us. I for one am no longer accepting what the media tells me, i'm no longer purely going to settle for judgements they claimed to have made purely because they're "higher than us" in a sense. i comprehend i'm a Capricorn, i visit continually BE a Capricorn. The media can go screw itself

Do you mean Serpentarius? It's not a real zodiac sign, because all the days of the year fall into one of the regular 12 zodiac signs. So unfortunately, I don't think anyone is born under this star sign.
