A symbol of marriage, the contract, it's significance and importance. It's what you make of it. It can symbolize the love, the friendship and the neverending discovery and growth of two people making a lifetime commitment to each other. One hopes!! Peace.

The wedding ring has all sorts of traditional values. These values can be taken seriously or considered all crap depending on the wearer. I know a guy who was fooling around with a girl, he simply removed the ring every time he met her. For all those who said that the ‘ring’ (circle) is a symbol of never ending love I have this to say. “Have you ever wondered, how thin is the line that makes the ring but how big is the hole within???” Why does our love need a symbol???

The more practical reason for wearing a wedding band or ring is: -

To show others that you are married so that those in the marriage market may stay away.

As a token of love given by the spouse on the day they said, “I DO”

To fulfill a religious requirement.

Hee hee! I know this one. This gal that I know got engaged to a guy. And instead of an engagement ring, he got her an expensive fancy mountain bike. He was an athletic guy and he thought it was really cool that she would go for the bike instead of the ring. I, being a practical person thought, hey, someone when I meet the one for me, I'll get him to buy me a car instead of a ring. Why waste money on a trinket when I could have something useful. Then, this gal and the guy broke off the engagement (he was a jerk and she came to her senses). Now if it had been a ring he might have had a decent chance of getting it back. But seeing as how it was a nice mountain bike, she was keeping it for sure!! At this point I realized the importance of the ring. The importance of the ring is that it is a symbol of that relationship and that committment. It's not something that you take trailriding on weekends. It's not something that you have to take to the shop for oil changes. It only has one purpose - to symbolize your love and committment. When you look at the ring you won't be thinking of how fun that new trail is or oh, I need to replace the wiper blades. Of course the ring also lets other people know that you're married... People that like to flirt tend not to like to wear a wedding ring!

It's a tradition which can be interpreted several ways.

1] It keeps on reminding you about the most importand relationship and related duties for the rest of ur life. No other place is better to keep a reminder than ur own hand.

2] It's a belief that the finger has a nerve which directly goes to ur heart so apart from reminding urself it keeps the relationship near to ur heart.

Its the whole ring thing, ring symbolises eternity, the size of the rock being the amount that your husbands prepared to pay for your life in servitude, what he wants to see you in, and the ring he knows he will be judged on. A load of **** really, but hey were girls and like pretty shinny things
