Segregation was a big effort on the part of the government. It calmed down because eventually people saw it was not the threat they imagined and the US government brought in troops to make it happen.

They cancelled the #49 bus on weekends, and stopped issuing transfers on the #20 Superconnector route.

They restored the #20 transfers, and people realized they didn't want to ride the #49 on weekends anyhow. I mean, it doesn't go anywhere worthwhile , fer Chrissake!
