The best way to increase milk is to breastfeed or pump often. It's the whole natural supply and demand thing. However when i first went back to work and couldn't do either as often, i drank a special "mother's milk" herbal tea, took alfalfa pills and an herb called Blessed Thistle. If you go to a healthfood store, they should be pretty helpful.

First off, you probably need to figure out if you really have a supply problem. Many times moms think they do when it is really something else. It's important to note that the feel of the breast (engorged or "full" feeling or not), the behavior of your baby, the frequency of nursing, the sensation of let-down (feeling it or not), or the amount you pump are not valid ways to determine if you have enough milk for your baby.

If you find that you do have a supply problem, the very first thing to do is to nurse or pump more frequently. Remember that breastfeeding is all about supply and demand. The more often you remove the milk from the breasts, the more milk you will make.

If more nursing/pumping doesn't do the trick, you might consider taking fenugreek. Take 3-4 capsules 3x per day. You'll smell kind of like maple syrup, but this is the best herbal supplement for increasing supply. Be sure to read the link below for more info before taking it.

Fenugreek is an herbal supplement that can be taken orally to increase your breast milk supply. I also heard that alfalfa (I hope I spelled that right) can be taken as well. And the lactation consultant that I see told me that O'Duhls non-alcoholic beer is also a good way to increase breast milk because of all the hops that it contains.
