Folic acid does not help you conceive.
But you should take it because the baby would need it most during the first few weeks of pregnancy, before you even get a positive HPT.
Take a daily multivitamin at the very least. Ginger is also good to take, according to most herbalists ... since it's a common food anyway, try to add some to your diet by drinking ginger tea or eating foods prepared with ginger. Of course, there ARE also ginger capsules.
If you take a daily multi, do NOT take an extra vitamin C supplement. High doses of vitamin C have been used for many years as an herbal abortifactant. Of course it's unlikely that a dose you take via a multi and a supplement would be high enough to do that, but the risk is there.

Folic Acid is very important to take even before you conceive. I was told you should start taking folic acid 2-3 months before you even begin trying for a baby. The reason is because studies are showing it decreases the risk for neural tube defects (i.e. spina bifida..) by a HUGE amount. I can't remember the exact percentage but it is a very large number. You can also start taking prenatal vitamins a few months before you start TTC. Of course, if you are trying now just begin taking these supplements now. Best of luck to you!
