Actually if you put sulfur around whatever you want to keep the snakes out of they will stay away. Snakes have pores on their bottoms and the sulfur burns them. You can pick it up at a hardware store or a general feed store.

There are products made for repelling snakes. Diesel isn't good for the soil and sulfur will burn your plants.
Check with a local nursery.

put lime around the perimeter you want the snakes to steer clear of . good luck.
