Despite the fact that some people find different things scary, I would have to say that in terms of a psychological type of scary, one that really strikes at fear, would have to be Stephen King's IT. In terms of a gory, slasher film, I would have to say Nightmare on Elm Street. Its a classic.

This answer to this question depends on one's definition of scary. For some, this means unknown creatures that go bump in the night. I'm partial to Alien in this category. For other, the depravity of mankind runs chills up their spines. The Silence of the Lambs may fit the bill. Maybe you like to be teased psychologically. A Tale of Two Sisters is pretty warped.
What I find most frightening, however, are movies that have no reason being made, yet make lots of money. The Pacifier makes me cry in to my pillow at night.

i dont know the name of the movie but about 20 years ago my uncle rented this australian movie.....it was set in present day but the main character flashed back as if he was reincarnated so we saw his 'past life' and crimes he commited, was the scariest thing ive ever seen.....as in suspense, blood, made you jump.

the Stephen King 's movie "it " about that clown. That movie made me hate clowns !

WOLF CREEK!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE scary movies, i have never had a nightmare because of one, but this one has giving me several!!!!!!!!!!!!!
