If you can buy a router with built-in DSL modem, then all you need to do is to connect router on Internet using credentials given by your Service provider and and that router has 4-port switch with DHCP. Just plug your mom's computer in one port and yours in other one, start surfing...

If you don't want to buy router then you need to put another network card into your mom's PC and connect your computer with cross cable with your mom's computer and enable Internet connection sharing on your mom's PC.

In second option if you mom switch off her PC you will not be able to browse Internet but in first one as router is connected to Internet it makes no difference if your mom's PC is on or not.

Economically first solution is expensive and second one is cheap but but little tricky..

Best of luck..

Yes, you need to patch into her connection.

so right now it's
ADSL Modem->mommy's computer

we want it to be
ADSL Modem -> Router -> Mommy's computer+son's computer

you will need a router, and set it up with the password/login info, and a cable for you to connect to the router, your mom can use her current cable

and a router is like, 10-30 dollars USD, I guess that's like a half dozen quid or something for you. you can order it online for best price... then again, everything is cheaper in America.

regrettably, No - your modem is like minded with Broadband basically - and desires a broadband connection to connect with the internet you will possibly choose a 56k Dialup modem to connect on your dialup provider. (that is because of the fact dialup works in a distinctive thank you to Broadband, dialup makes use of widespread telephone strains, while broadband nonetheless makes use of telephone strains, yet makes use of a technologies called Asymetric digital Subscriber Line (or ADSL) for this reason the rationalization why that's called an ADSL and not a Dialup modem)

You cannot use a router to connect to a dial up modem. It's impossible.

She must have either a DSL or cable internet connection with a router allowing you connect using your computer which either has to have a wireless internet card in a slot or internal wirless connectivity.

The alternative is to get dial up service yourself and use her login information. But there is no way for you to link your computer to her connection otherwise.
