Maye the Rain just doesnt like you. This happens all the time in Detroit. The storms may track SE and past you to the south from what I'm seeig on the map. Penrith is right on the upslope of the mountians, where they get perfectly good updrafts into their clouds. Also, Sydney is right by the oceans, received added mositure content in the clouds when the storms do reach them. You may not see them as well because the suckish downdrafts ruins your chances of rain. Sorry.

Other part of the country gets more rain along the coast line, because the moisture in the clouds come from the water. It goes up to the clouds causing more percipitation near the water. The furter away from it, the less likely that the humidity will be in the air. The furter away from the water, the less chances of rain coming down. That's why some parts are dryer than others.

I live in Inner West, in Sydney and we got the HUGE downpour of rain and thunder at around 5:00pm. You must be pretty unlucky if you missed out on this rain. Penrith might have more because the rain came from the mountains and it was the first one to get it.
