Remember 9/11? Women were the first ones out there, rolling their tounges and dancing for joy. Women are the ones putting garlands on the heads of their sons as the go die for Allah in a suicide run.
It will take a lot more than putting women in charge to clear that crap up.

Women from the Middle East enjoy varying degrees of liberty. They're comparatively free in North Africa and the countries around Israel, comparatively suppressed in the Arabian Peninsula, Southeast Asia, Somalia and Sudan. So yes, they are literally watching and saying nothing. The only exceptions were in Pakistan and Bangladesh but I believe these exceptions were in spite of Islamic law, not because of it, because Muhammad said a tribe led by a woman would never thrive. So no...A time when Middle Eastern women may be free to run for the highest public offices at any time does not seem forthcoming.

you assume that the Middle East is 1) in a Dark Age and 2) a single country. Which neither are true.
80-something percent of Iraqs new Parliment are women. Afganistan is and has been a religious state since just after WWII. And Turkey has had a cultural rennovation for the last 20 years.
Who are you to say their ways are bad, they are just not your ways.
If you want to blame someone in this turmultuous Civil War about, blame England. That's the place that dumped everyone of Arabic decent into one area and gave up. Those cultures had to find their own way without any help for quite a while. Stop blaming everything on the differences and let's concentrate on the simularities.

It's Islam that is keeping the Middle East in the Dark Ages. Islam is not so much a religion as it is a cynical and hypocritical structure for totalitarian rule, so it does NOT encourage learning or reward intelligence (except in memorizing the Koran, of course)! Muslims in Afghanistan, for example, murder schoolteachers to keep the citizens ignorant "in the name of Allah", yet these same religious Muslims are widely known for raping young boys.

I don't know if it would make any difference....Probably or probably not. Just like here in the Philippines, having a woman president doesn't change anything.....So, I guess this is relative to that situation if the women controlled the Middle East.....I guess, the goodness or badness of a situation is dependent on the kind of person ruling whether it be a man, woman, gay or lesbian......

Mate, if women were running the Middle East they'd still be discussing what color the table cloths should be at the peace conference!

Too say they are not too bright is a bit ignorant. There are lots of intelligent people there. In fact that's where civilisation started. Put women in charge and I think they would blow each other up inside a month.

It is not a case of sexual relations, sexism or feminism.
The Middle East loves a dictator - that is all they know. We give Iraq democracy but they don't know what the f*ck to do with it.
They love drama - killing, bombings, death, political assassinations.
A woman in power in the Middle-East would not matter - it is honourable for A Muslim mother to send her son to be killed in Jihad....

Talk about Gender equality not about domination; education, politics will help bring gender equality. Empowerment and revolution by women are the ways to get Gender equality in Middle East.
