this is true, however i have played chess for many years, and i do believe that if nothing else, it is a good workout for the brain, which most experts agree is beneficial for keeping your brain in good working order. So in a roundabout way, chess can make you smarter, or at least slow down the degeneration of the brain as you get older. As they say "if you don't lose it, you lose it".
Of course there are stacks of ways to give your brain a good workout. You don't have to play chess.

So your question is more like an opinion on your part. you dont think chess is a complex enough game to require a higher Iq. I've been playing chess for about 5 years. My story isn't like anyone elses. It hasn't made me a million times smarter. However, when i first began i was very slow at it due to beginning a new game and not knowing strategies of the game. The game chess is mostly compared to war strategy. The more strategy you have the better off you are. The more stragies you have, the smarter you are most likely. I think chess does increase your intelligence to some degree. You realize different strategies, but maily just of that game. So just because you are a professional chess player, doesn't mean your going to be able to learn how to fly jets better than anyone else. Just the game that your good at. Typically though, people who are really good at chess were already capable of being really smart. Its a very complex game. So i dont think chess will neccessarily make you smarter, but it will enhance your already evolving abilities of the game at hand as long as your mind is capable of that much.( it depends on the person)

Why are you against Chess, do you lose all the time or did someone you are a dumb chess player.
Chess is the toughest and smartest game in the whole world, it will teach you how to use your brain power, but you will become smart only when you you these tactics and solving skills in your daily activities.
Look man do not get frustrated when you lose and play it until you win big matches and tourneys.
All the best.

What is chess but a minds game, this is true. It plays with real people and possessions in mind. I was used as a pawn many times. just by thinking with questions and answers. questions and answers being the players in life, stepping stones of knowledge get us where we need to go , transforming thought into many forms , most unlike our own. chess, and a good teacher will calm uncertainty.

Chess is beneficial if played for the correct reasons. If played simply to win, you're playing for the wrong reason. If playing to learn, then you're playing for the correct reason.
But, your infantile mind seems incapable of learning the many ways in which the ancient art is beneficial, so I'll not waste my time.
