Tampons take a while to get used to. They can feel funny and be difficult to put in at first. Get some of the Junior Slim kind to try out first. But once you get used to them, they are sooo much more comfortable and easier to deal with. You will probably want to try them at some point, because you may want to go swimming or running something while you've got your period. You could also try "Instead" - I've heard good things about that but I haven't tried it yet.
Oh yeah- and I recommend you try some with a plastic applicator for the first time; they're easier to put in.

In the US, more women use tampons than pads, but I have a friend who didn't start using tampons until 18 or 19 and then another friend who is 22 and still hasn't used a tampon (but she's tried a couple times and couldn't figure it out). Tampons are great because there isn't the mess and you can go swimming with them and you can't tell they are there with pants on. It is your choice if you want to use tampons, and if you want to convince your mom just give her the reasons why. She should understand.
When I started my period at 12, my mom gave me tampons, so I have never used pads. I do use pantyliners though.

it's all personal preferance.
my mom always bought me pads and I didn't question it or try tampons until i was 19. if you want to try tampons go for it. Start with light or junior size tampons and wear them with the pads you normally wear until you get used to them and how well they work. once you know, you can try larger size tampons and try going without pads if you want. I still wear always pads or pantyliners at night and on my light flow days. try to change your tampons every 4-6 hours and never leave one in longer than 8 hours. A lot of women who only wear pads simply have never tried tampons. If you give them a chance you'll probably stay with them. oh, be sure you get them all the way in because not putting them in far enough is the most common mistake

I used pads at first becasue I was not confident with tampons but I wouldn't wear a pad now. They are bulky and uncomfortable and can be very messy. Also it is a constant reminder. Just ask your mom. There's nothing to be scared of. Read the instructions in the pamphlet carefully. Good luck.

TAMPONS! Pads suck because of the fact which you could take a seat there in blood at day. i all started utilising tampons at 12 years previous. not something is incorrect with utilising tampons on your first era, its the age element some human beings think of 11 365 days olds do not could be sticking issues up their vag. Tampons do harm slightly in the previous each thing yet you get used to it.

Do not be scared to ask your mom. Just tell her that pads show under when you wear thin pants she will understand. Plus if you ask her to help choose which tampon is better for you this will be better for you. Lots of luck.

There are alot of style of pads. maybe u should try one of them. i heard that tampons can cause that toxic shock ? i have tried them and it wasn't very comfortable. and its pretty gross. Just think to get them out u pull on a string between ur legs and out pops a bloody mess... stick with pads.. they have some for thongs. try those when u wear ur thin pants

i use both pads and tampons, also panty liners when my period is really light like on the 1st and fourth day.
about pads, you can also wear the ultra thin ones, sometimes you don't even feel it.
tampons, always wear the lighter protection than your flow, change it often, not more than 8 hours, because of the risk of toxic shock syndrome.

well heres the thing you will find that most girls use pads and most women use tampons.
pads are safer than tampons because you can't get toxic shock from them, toxic shock makes you feel really ill vomiting etc.. and it can kill you.
tampons are there because they are more discreet, more comfortable aswell if you insert them correctly.
i was embarrassed the first time i spoke to my nan about it, i went straight up to her and said nan i think i want to try tampons, she was great about it, took me out the next day to get some. just talk to your mum when there is no dad or male friend about.
good luck xx
