I think you should explore around the island. Take a bus or a cab. Penang has the best food in the country.

I believe that you could find all those stuff at the convenient stores around the campus itself.
For the shopping centre, you might have to take bus or taxi to the main city first. Once there, you'll be spoiled with choice.

i've been in USM last week.
simple, take a walk out of gate beside the USM mosque, you can see a lot of shoplots infront of you. now turn to the right and keep walking. you will find most things a student needs. good luck
