I get asked what nationalities I am sometimes. People are just curious about where other people come from.
It seems like people would rather be offended then build a bridge to each other by getting the chip off their shoulder. This ultra sensitivity crap is getting tiresome and old and is doing nothing but dividing people.

Stereotyping, i think, is a form of organizing. Just imagine if everyone looked the same, had the same skin colour, features etc. We'd not be able to tell them apart, and neither would they feel like they belong somewhere. This "organizing" also helps when people "read" you for the first time. It helps them to prepare themselves about learning more about you. If you differ from the "norm" of your "type", then of course that will invite questions! But you don't always have to look at it negatively, they are just being curious or inquisitive.
I myself, am native south-east asian and I'm "mixed blood" too, but all asian, no caucasian blood in me. AND I still get questions from asians...because I generally look different! So even my "type" questions the way I appear...just take it in your stride!

People stereotype because as a means of classification, people like to have things labelled and in thier right boxes, and it's not just about colour, it happens in shools too.. eg the jocks in the school are expected to be morons who have no brains, the geeks are expected to be unable to do anything remotely resembling cool, the cheerleader group is expected to be bitchy... I could go on but you get the point, anything or anyone who doesn't fit the stereotype is considered an oddity and questions will be asked, it's a way of life unfortunately and until we teach everyone to think differently we're stuck with it.

I guess it's easier to stereotype about groups than to get to know individuals and find out the truth rather than assume stuff. I guess people who stereotype a lot are just kind of ignorant or can't be bothered to take out time to learn the truth about individuals. (Woah, is that a stereotype about people who stereotype? Or just plain truth?)
Stereotypes can be very annoying. Try to not let it get to you though, it's just ignorance that makes people puzzled about your ethnicity. Just embrace the chance to tell people the truth so you can reduce their ignorance (we all learn something new every day) and avoid stereotyping others yourself. Maybe that will inspire some people to do the same.

Because of the 'tribal affect' When man lived in caves and trees they had to identify other members of their tribe. So they affected similar ways of wearing skins, and other adornments. And we cannot 'subconsciously' forget that! Have you seen people going to work every morning in London New York, or Sydney? there dress is so familiar, it's quite funny. In London it's the bowler hat, black jacket, and stripped dark trousers! Very tribal! In New York it's lounge suit, shirt and tie, and patent leather shoes! In Sydney, it's a mix, due to the weather, shorts or long pants, light shirt, leather shoes. lol.
