no such thing as madatory overtime, and you can't be terminated because of it, your boss is responsible for hiring more people if there is a workload issue.

Do you live in a Backwards Right To Work State? Last time I checked an employer can ask you to work overtime and you have the right to decline unless you are on Salary! Take it to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the National Labor Relations Board.

Mandatory overtime no .
If you were hired with the expectation of working overtime at the companies discretion theres really not a lot you can do. The best answer would come from your states labor board, states have different labor laws.,

Mandatory overtime? I am shocked. It has been years since I had to work overtime. They usually hire a bunch of new people on a part-time basis to avoid overtime. I would go on the safe side and give them notice.

Working in maintenance No Way do they have to give you notice. If something breaks down 2 seconds from quitting time you might be there for hours getting it back up and running.
Nor do they have to give you notice for an emergency such as an unexpected rush order that has to be finished and shipped in a certain period of time.

Hiring an worker with the pending anti-busness taxes on the horizon for 2011 may well be insane. Many agencies are making final minute capital equipment purchases this twelve months to be waiting to prepare the present tax systems. Wait till the 2d quarter of 2011 in spite of everything equipment is further. That screaming you would be listening to could be the individuals residing interior the streets and demanding "wish" and "substitute".

I don't think so. When you put in your application, it should have asked you. I would say if you don't like your job, look for a new one but do not tell ANYONE. Someone who you think is your friend, might just blab to look good to the boss!
