My all time favourite short story with a real kick is 'The Streets of Ashkelon' by Harry Harrison
Back again - forgot to add that Roald Dahl wrote some fabulous short horror fiction. So did Guy de Maupassant and Ray Bradbury )The Emissary is one of the best)
Back again - excellent suggestion from sharkgirl. 'Survivor Type' is unforgettable

If you want something really strange and off the wall, I'll recommend any of the short stories in the book "Dogwalker" by Arthur Bradford. We're talking things from women giving birth to a litter of puppies, to a guy with a mutated face that looks like a cat.. the guys style of writing is very straightforward and he's pretty funny.

All Around The Town - by Mary Higgins Clark
(its a psychological thriller)
or this quirky book called 'Crash' novel3 by Nan McCarthy - its like a cybernovel but has a twist at the end.
or ' A million little pieces' by James Frey (but i warn you .. a lot of swearing in it) but its a good book with a meaning

Want a scarey bloody and creepy ending to a famous fairy tale?
Try "The Red Shoes" by Hans Christian Anderson.
Whoa. The original version. This is not something you would read to a toddler.
