They used to have these at Kmart, where you could pick a person off the tree and buy them a present. I want to do that because its more personal than just donating to Toys For Tots. Where can I find one? I live in Michigan, if that helps...

The Walmart in my town, and in most towns I've lived in, have Angel Trees. Most malls have them, too.

I was in choir in high school, and the theme for one of our Christmas concerts was A Gift For Every Child. Instead of buying tickets, donations of new, unwrapped gifts were taken at the door, and we had an Angel Tree at the school.

If you can't find one, you may want to talk to clergy at a local church, homeless shelters, or teachers for ideas of a child or family you could sponsor for Christmas. I know with Coats for Kids, the teachers are the main people who nominate children to receive the coats, so I would imagine they'd know of a child whose parents can't afford much in the way of Christmas gifts. Many pastors know of a family in the congregation who have financial problems. If you take this route, ask for their cooperation so that the child's and the family's identities can be protected. Ask them if they know of a child, how old that child is, and what the child would want, and after you buy the gift, give it to them to distribute to the child's parents in a confidential way.

I think it's wonderful that you're actively looking for a way to help.

Merry Christmas

Most of the Dollar Generals, Family Dollars, and Dollar Trees this year have boxes set up to donate for people.
Also, contact the local Red Cross or Salvation Army or Childrens Services.

Instead of picking a person off the street, you could donate to the Salvation Army- they do all kinds of good work for these people.

Wal-Mart, local school social worker, Dollar Store, Police or Fire Department, Homeless Shelter, Women's Shelter, Church Charities, ask any of those types of people. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce, usually a Fraternal/Civic Organisation has lists.

Go to any mall, look near the food court, they should have a local charity's Angel Tree there.

God Bless You

Try the Meijers stores -- they should have an Angel Tree in there (just like the K-Marts,Wal-Marts and other Discounters do).
