♡Some people have told me they've gotten a one year spousal visa and others a 3 year. I get a three year spousal visa. It's usually a 1 or 3 year visa. It may all depend on the country you come from too, or so I'm told.
~To renew, you need to fill out the applications for your visa again, you can download/print them from this site:
They are called Application for Extension of Period of Stay and can be found here:
http://www.moj.go.jp/ONLINE/IMMIGRATION/16-3-1.pdf
The rest are here:
http://www.moj.go.jp/ONLINE/page.html#16
☆I always have mine done before I go there, seems to go faster that way.
~Usually you need to supply:
1) Copy of your spouse's Koseki Tohon (family registration)
2) An Employment Certificate, Authorized Business certificate or company registration certificate.
3) Income-tax payment certificate, Withholding income tax slip. or Declaration of income tax return.
4) Gaijin card
5) Jumin-Hyo (resident certificate)
6) Passport
Check here for the Immigration Office nearest you:
http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/appendix3.html#1
Good luck and I hope this helps!
☆If you still have questions, try to call the office nearest you, they should be able to tell you everything you need to have and prepare before you come to the office.♡

Your present visa status is Spouse/ Child of a Japanese which is called Higusha.
For the renewal you better apply at least 2 weeks in advance in any branch of immigration.
Fill out Application for extension of stay you can get it from immigration office. Do not download from website as some forms are changed.
If you are dependent of spouse then (May be) work certificate
and bank certificate. Tax certificate.
Marriage certificate from the city office,
As recently immigration is very strict a slight mistake could put you in trouble better visit immigration, show them Alien card and obtain application form and ask them to give you in written or printed information what is need for renewal of visa. Do not believe on verbal information as those who are for assistance they are just part time staff.
Note: check passport if that is not going to expire.

Leave Japan once and come back. But remember, tourist Visa is valid up to 180 days per year for most countries. You won't be able to do the same thing again this year. Need to wait another year.

I thought a marriage visa was longer than that. I heard it was 10 years?
Anyway, go to the immigration office. It should be in or near your local city hall (Shiyakusho). They'll renew your visa.

I would suggest contacting a lawyer who specializes in visas and get the real facts.
get started early.
Just do not overstay your marriage visa. Visa overstay is a big thing now. Lockup is the first step they take, before they even start to listen to your side.
