Any year from the past can be referred to as retro. Anything that is no longer modern is called retro. They do often use the term to describe things from the 50s and 60s because those are the popular years for collectible retro items these days, especially furniture and household items (along with 70s stuff)

Ok the way I classify it...just from listening to other around me is currently "retro"= 70s-80s, "vintage"= 30s-60s. That's at least the feel I get of it for fashion purposes.

The dictionary says retro means "Involving, relating to, or reminiscent of things past; retrospective." So that could apply to anything in the past, I guess, but not necessarily just the 50's and 60's, if that's what you mean.

it was more like the 60's and 70's actually. Disco, Funk etc., the 50's where bands that sang fruity songs.
