Your sponsor needs to be someone who knows you. The sponsor will have to answer questions about your personality and whether they believe that you would understand, believe, and follow the principles of Masonry.
It is against Masonic principle to recommend somone that you do not know. If you do not have a brother, uncle, dad, cousin, work friend, school counselor, boss, friend who is a Mason, then how would anyone know if this would be right for you.
Just start asking any male you know. Don't be shy with it, ask, ask, ask. You may be suprised.
Without a sponsor, then you can still petition, but be prepared to do alot of talking. I hope your faith is in the right place.

Just go to a lodge and ask. You may need to go to a few meeting and get to know people before someone will sponsor you. But it you are good person that wants to help i cant imagine a lodge keeping you out because you don't know any members. Go you may find you do already know someone there. Email me with any questions

I suggest against the co-masonry sirius lodge French stuff. Join a traditional lodge and get the traditional experience that Benjamin Franklin and David Crockett got. Unfortunatley Masonry is going downhill fast. Members are no longer dedicated to changing the world, they are not willing to hold up the oaths, and they want it to be quick and easy.
If you are in Texas by chance, you will get one great experience. Go to www.grandlodgeoftexas.org. Meet some Masons. If you ask around to friends and family, you might be surprised at who is in it. 2 B 1 ASK 1

I am assuming you are attempting to join the masculine rite of Freemasons. I belong to the esoteric Order, American Co-Masonry -- Freemasonry for women and men. I will speak about our Order only, since I do not know all the etiquete of others (hard to know enough of one's own.)
We have times after our Lodges are over, after we have taken down all the trappings and put them away. People are sitting around in their street clothes and usually having a brief snack before getting in the car to drive off (my group of four live almost 200 miles away from our Lodge). It is that time when a visitor may be allowed to come in (by the direction of the Right Worshipful Master) to meet the Brethren. Yes, we call women "Brothers" as well as the men.
It is in this setting one can find a Master Mason or three to exchange phone numbers and emails to get some sense of who you are and who the Lodge is. Now we also send out three Master Masons to interview our candidates. Each of these could be asked to sponsor you (you should ask them, of course). Interviews are not just a formality in our Order. We do ask questions about how you would fit in with us. It is better for us and you to ask those questions. You have mostly answered them once on your application blank but the Brother who is asking needs to gauge your real response. Be honest with these interviews.
When your application is read in Lodge and the Board of Inquiry has had their results read, then we do ask who sponsors the applicant. If no one has, then the Board of Inquiry members may be asked if anyone on the Board will. However, it is better to ask Brothers you meet and get to talk with, even before the Board of Inquiry, to sponsor you.
That is just how it is in American Co-Masonry.
Whatever path you choose in Freemasonry, there is something deep, esoteric, and moral in it. Freemasonry is a mirror: if a monkey looks in, a philosopher does not look out. I guess a windbag looks in (in my case) *grin*
If I can be of further service, feel free to write to me or to click on the link below to read more about American Co-Masonry.
