They are not stupid- runing is sometimes a person's only escape. And to protect one's dignaty, they need to oppose the system. If that meand running and hiding, so be it. If they were truely cowerds, they would not have run.

Look up those people who DIDN'T run and hide. Nat Turner, for one.

Note that he is certainly not a figure of passive resistance (he led an armed uprising against white slaveowners), but I think someone like him certainly embodies pride, strength, and confidence in an era of slavery.

Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois (born after slavery had ended), and others are black male role models from this era (although there are inherent conflicts - Washington and DuBois disagreed on lots of things).

Any of these would be good contrasts within your article, if you are saying that "running away and hiding" can be attributed to a lack of confidence.

Of course not, and that was one of the most inciteful questions I've ever seen on this board. Your charismatic phrasing, the sheer genius of the vocabulary left me quite speechless for a short time. You obviously are greatly educated and have asked the questions that hold the key to universal harmony.
May your journey into the yearning chasm of education about characteristics become the persuading argument for the reception of the Nobel prize.

You don't have to prove the obvious. Running and hiding just shows intelligence.
