I knew i'd look at your question and see people answering/freaking out. Ferer is not dangerous for babies, despite what one of these answers say. Babies can handle a higher fever than adults. They bounce back better. If she can breathe you're doing ok. If her fever is hard to kick then alternate with motrin. It will kick it quickly. If you take the baby to E.R. you're most likely going to sit there for 3 hours for them to tell you that the baby has a cold or the flu. Each, not treatable. It sounds to me like you're doing the best that a mother can do when her baby is sick. If it will make you feel better, take her to the E.R. but it's not an emergency.

If she isn't vomiting, it more than likely isn't the flu. Watch the fever very closely. They will tell you that it is probably a viral infection and to let it run it's course but, if the fever gets very high like higher than 103, take her to the e.r. or get her to the doc as soon as possible. They have over the counter cold meds for infants that will treat all of her symptoms or give her some relief I should say. Just be patient and comfort her. A nice warm bath and then some vicks will help the stuffy nose a lil bit. Good luck and remember prayer is the best medicine.

If her fever gets over 101 then you might think about taking her to an er or outpatient type place. Make sure you take her butt temp bc the armpit can be about 2 degrees off. When she sleeps just let her sleep in a t shirt or just a diaper. It won't hurt her or make her cold and it will help her fever. If you have a humidifier that might work better than the vicks. Make sure she is getting enough liquids. (If you are wondering why I have this down pat its bc my 10 month old son just got over the flu) Try and keep her nose clear of snot and boogers so she can sleep better. Using a warm wash cloth helps. You can smell her ears to see if they have a funny smell to them for ear infection which is common for babie who have colds. If that is the case she might sleep better propped up a bit so her ears dont hurt. Just make sure you give her the tylenol and really watch her fever. I am sure she will be fine until morning, but i know what its like to stay up all night worrying. I hope this helps!

I have a 10 month old who has had these symptoms before twice in the past. Once when she was 6weeks and when she was about 8 months. The pediatrican I used it fantastic. He's seen my 10 year old and my daughter and he even saw me when I saw born-basically I've had him around for 30 years, so I hope you can use some of these remedies for your little one.
1) For the fever he would tell me to use either tylenol or since my daughter was about the same age at the time of her cold I could use 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of children's motrin.
2) For the cold part-if the stuffy nose glands were swollen and stuffy but with runny clear mucous, for me to use 1/2 tsp of the orange color and flavor "cold and allergy triaminic". This one can be used for sneezing, itchy eyes, runny & stuffy nose. If the nose glands are swollen and stuffy with thick clops or (not to sound gross) but stringy mucous to use 1/2 tsp of the yellow pineapple flavor triaminic "chest congestion and nasal congestion triaminic".
3) For the crankiness, he has always suggested for me to used chamomille tea with just a little touch of sugar. (try without it first but if she doesn't take it then add a little touch of sugar for the sweet flavor). He's always had me use this even to prevent and/or to treat colic. He's had me use it since she was born. And the one thing my daughter has not ever had was colic or been gasy. And the good thing is it will help her be at ease.

I hope you can use this. The two times my daughter got a cold she was better within 3 days of these remedies. Good luck to you and I wish well health for your little girl =D

There are so many things that it could be. Until you get to the doctor, push the fluids and treat the fever. Comfort her as much as possible. Do not try second guess. With the fever and stuffy nose, you have to be conscious of an ear infection. Take her to the doctor. Tylenol can only be given every 4 hours at the most. Do NOT exceed the maximum dose for 24 hours (this should be on the label). Now, you can alternate Advil/Motrin with the Tylenol.
But please, please, please call your pediatrician.

Take him to his regualr pediatrician and see about having him tested for RSV. Many times it goes unnoticed b/c it has mant cold like symptoms. Also, it is not the first thing a DR looks for unless your child is premature! Also, having repeated colds that are pretty bad do unfortunately lead to asthma. My daughter was diagnosed with asthma last fall. Make sure to treat his symptoms, you can either take him outside in the cool air, or run really hot water in the bathroom with the door shut. Also, now the have little plugins you can go buy. I would think you should try those until you can get him into the DR office. Also, when you go ask the DR about a nebulizer to help clear out your childs lungs!! Best of Luck, hope he feels better! Also, if the cold return multiple times, then this could be and allergy that develops later in life, my daughter developed an allergy to dairy products just a week ago!

OK what they are going to tell you is if her fever is over 101.5 go to the ER if not I would wait till the morning to take her to her own Dr. I just got finished doing all this with my 12mos old last week but he had a fever of 102.8 and I took him to the ER and all he had was an ear infection. Sooo keep giving the Tylenol and if that doesn't work you can give her Motrin or Advil (infants of course) and try to get her to sleep. Good Luck

Hi! you got a lot of answers and I did not go through and read them all.. so someone might have already said this. But I just took my ten month old to the doc for the same reason. It was a cold virus. He did prescribe a decongestant but also suggested that I switched from the Tylenol to infants Motrin .. he seems to think it is more effective for cold-like symptoms!

Alternate Acetometiphine and Ibuprophin to keep the fever down and try some dimetapp for cold symptoms. A humidifier hot or cold is a MUST!! They are WONDERFUL for cold of any age especially children. Do not hesitate to go to the doctor, that is why they are there, sick children and overly cautious mothers! :)
It is probably just a nasty cold. They are the worst when it's your own child that has them. Don't push her to eat, just encourage her to drink liquids. Popsicles always worked with mine, plus it helps if she has a soar thraot. Good luck and I hope your little sweetie feels better real soon.

it sounds like your doing alright, are you using the baby Vicks? check her temp. and call your babys Dr. they should have someone on call 24 hrs just for these kinds of illnesses. they can tell you what to do and set you up to come into the office first thing in the morning. if they think its is nessary to go to the ER then go. otherwise just wait until morning. also keep her kind of propped up when she sleeps, it will help her nose drain better
