What makes both of these individual's "philosophers"?

Mahatma Gandhi from the East.
Both strived for teaching people wisdom. They both believed in living by one's principles, and both wanted people to live in Peace.
The contrast was, one believed in the life hereafter, and the other believed in re-incarnation.

Western philosophers are greater oftentimes used interior the west because of the fact they are area of our cultural heritage and modern-day their perspectives in procedures that are known to us. The eastern modes of theory often times seem unusual to westerners.
