I moved out of Vegas 4 years ago for my job.

Rent and food were very reasonable. Rent has gone up alot since then, but food is still cheap. Locals casinos offer very good food at low prices. Just stay away from the gambling or that $4.99 meal could end up costing $500.

Entertainment is second to none. If you can't find something to do in Vegas, you aren't looking.

Weather is nice. Lots of sun, little rain. It does get hotter than h*** June thru August. I mean HOT!! Stepping outside feels like opening a hot oven door and sticking your face in.

Transportation is fairly easy. CAT buses cover most of the valley. Driving isn't bad unless you are close to the strip. And of course there is the monorail, shuttle buses, and a zillion cabs.

Communities vary. Generally speaking the farther you are from the strip and downtown, the nicer the communities are. However I lived in an apartment complex 1/2 mile from the strip and was totally comfortable. It depends on what you are looking for.

I've lived in Las Vegas for 15 years. When I first moved here it was very affordable, not any longer. My utilities bills have tripled in the past 15 years, cable has gone way up, groceries are probably comparable to other states or maybe a little higher.

Everyone is in a hurry to go nowhere. The traffic congestion is horrendous and there is no such thing as a courteous driver, they cut you off and speed and tailgate and there are a great deal of accidents as well.

Crime has risen, seems like everyday you hear about a murder or something terrible.

The heat is unbearable, you can't do anything in the summer because of the heat so what kind of enjoyment is there outdoors in the supposedly nicest part of the year? None, in my opinion.

Everyone seems to have their hands out for a tip no matter where you go or what you do. It's money, money, money, that's the bottom line.

Don't count on getting to know your neighbors because everyone seems to be in their own worlds and not many people put out a helping hand here.

You asked, I answered. Not a pretty picture but in my opinion fairly factual.

And yes, I plan on moving out of Las Vegas as soon as I can.

There is one good thing about Las Vegas, I want to be fair, they have tons of shopping and the shopping centers keep on growing and expanding. You'll never have to go too far to find what you need. That's about the only good thing I can say about living here.

I have lives here for 18 years, and I believe it's the fastest growing city in the U.S. I know it used to be, anyway....

Housing expenses have gone up[ per capita the same as most of the rest of the country.....It's still much less than a place like Calif. for example.

The entertainment is unbelievable! It's Vegas, after all....You just pick out what you like to do, and be willing
to PAY for it, and it's yours!

There are nice new communities in the Vegas Valley where you can go that look like any other nice new area in the Southwest U.S.

The Weather is Hot in Summer, Cold in Winter with not much in Between, but the winter is quite mild compared to most places. There is only per say a handful of Nasty days in the wintertime each year....

Transportation......The traffic sucks, like many other large cities that have grown faster than they could keep up with.....

The biggest Complaint I have heard from residents here comes from those with children who are raising a family. Although there are nice areas and nice schools in some areas here, the general consensus is that there is just not a lot of stuff to do for the kids here......

Rent can get high if you want to stay out of the bad areas.

Food can be cheaper eating out, than going to grocery's stores, always coupons in paper, and use your players club card and the comp makes eating at casinos low priced.

this time of year it is chilly at night but soon as the sun comes up it is great,

Transportation is about the same as any city, if you want to gamble or sight see a lot of the casinos have free bus's to their other property's.

There are good parts and bad like any city, parts of north Vegas is worth staying out of, and they say 1 out of every 9 people you meet here are illegals.

All and all it is a great place to live, remember there is a lot of cheap and free things here, but the city runs on tips.

Good luck!
