10 and 15
The perimeter is 50, so that means 2x-5 + x equals 2 sides out of 4.
If the perimeter is 50, then 2 sides equals 25, therefore:
2x-5 + x = 25
3x = 30
x = 10
and
2x - 5 = 15
So 2 sides of 10 and 2 sides of 15.
Okay Spurs, for a few minutes there, you had "a" as an answer. What's the deal? Had to reserve your spot for the first answer and then take 5 minutes to do the math?

The perimeter is just the length of all the sides added together. In this case, the vertical sides are x and the horizontal sides are 2x-5. So the perimeter is 2(x)+2(2x-5)=6x-10.
Set 6x-10 equal to 50 and solve.
x is 10 inches.

Since perimeter = 2 x length + 2 x width, you should be able to substitute directly:
50 = 2( 2x-5) + 2x or 6x-10. Then 60=6x and x=10 and 2x-5=15.

x=10 in; 2x-5 = 15in
P = 50in
50= 2(2x-5)+2x
50= 4x-10+2x
60 =6x
x=10
2x-5 =15

perimeter = 2 x + 2y
50=2x+2(2x-5)
50=2x+4x-10
50+10=4x+2x
60=6x
x=10 one side
other side is y (other side)=2x-5
y=2(10)-5
y=15 other side
