you have to have the car unlocked and you should be able to push on the left side of the gas door and it should prop open. There is a mechanism that connects it with your door locks so folks can't syphon your gas. i had the same problem after i bought mine and had to call my dad who is a mechanic to figure it out. good luck!

It should unlock automatically when you unlock the front door. If this isn't happening, you have a vacuum problem. There is a vacuum pump hidden under the rear seat which supplies vacuum for the locking mechanism. First step would be to remove the seat bottom and inspect the pump. If the pump is working, you will need to find the leak, which is done by methodically tracing the vacuum lines from the pump, and measuring vacuum at each branch.

To simply unlock the door, you will probably need to remove the black plastic liner on the right side of your trunk. It's hard to describe how to do this, but if I remember correctly, it's not held in by any fasteners, it just pops into place. It just takes some careful manipulation to remove it. Now that I think about it, you may have to unbolt the panel at the front of your trunk first. Once it's out, you should be able to reach the door lock from behind and open it.
